Andrés Iglesias
Live and work in Barcelona.
I started painting to change the world and I’m still painting so the world does not change me. I have an inner, almost desperate, compulsion to create or at least to try to create: beauty, joy, pleasure, doubts, silences…I paint from my emotions and I want to provoke emotions, similar or different to my own, that is not relevant when there is something to communicate.
I try to avoid the differences between what I am and what I do. I am existentialist; therefore, my work is also existentialist. I intend my works to reflect silent existential scenes, a battle, a wave, a hug. I use materials and colours to create strong or delicate contrasts. I frequently use horizons to manifest divisions and I generally apply the paint tube directly on the canvas to enhance the effect.
When I paint, I am free …. and I like that to show in my painting.
The discourse of the work is in the work.
